Aerial silks is an art form that challenges the body and the mind. As a fitness regimen, aerial has a way of strengthening and toning the body in a way that many other forms of exercise can’t accomplish. As an art, aerial dance allows the mover to extend emotion beyond the extremities of the body and into the fabric itself. Students will learn the fundamentals of fabric aerial dance and fitness while building strength and coordination in a safe and supportive environment.

Nina Madsen’s modern dance class is inspired by a combination of release technique, Laban Movement Analysis, Bartenieff Fundamentals, and other Somatic Practices. We explore the body’s natural relationship to the floor throughout the first half of the class and gradually transition into standing, fluidly moving with the forces of gravity and the body’s natural tendencies. The class emphasizes dynamic connectivity and awareness of the body to achieve maximum physical freedom of expression through movement. Ending combinations focus on fusing the inner and outer worlds of the mover and the somatic realization of meaning through movement.
